Unbreakable
Rape is one of the most silencing things that can happen to a person. We treat it as such a taboo subject, often completely misplacing the blame on alcohol, miscommunication, clothing, the victim, anything but acknowledging the very active decision a person makes when forcing another into sex. This project is an effort to give a voice to people who have been raped or experienced sexual abuse, quoting either things that people said to them afterwards, or even direct quotes from their abusers/rapists. I think it’s a fascinating–though heart wrenching–way of reflecting back to us the way that our society handles rape. For more, check out the photographer Grace Brown’s tumblr.
